about.
Gone but not forgotten, Orbit; Dear Beacon ceased live performances in early 2006 but have since gained more and more followers due to the recent release of their music on CD. Those who were lucky enough to catch them live some years ago will testify to the epic and often spine tingling lushness that Orbit; Dear Beacon can produce. A sound that has been re-created down to the finest detail on their first, and only release "Flee! to the mammoth canopy"
sounds like.
explosions in the sky, godspeed you! black emperor, mono, mogwai, red sparowes, isis, mountain men anonymous, do make say think...
history.
Orbit; Dear Beacon formed in 2004 as an experimental purely amient outfit taking influence from acts such as Labradford, The Album Leaf and Stars of the lid. Music was always written to be performed live as most of the pieces were improvised depending upon atmosphere and mood. Then in early 2005 bassist George Wallbank joined moving Sam Westley on the Drums, an old haunt of his. With the rythm section now the heartbeat of Orbit; Dear Beacon this left Peter Cooper and Chris Tsui the freedom to paint the landscape on guitar.
Many gigs followed with a couple of studio sessions too, but it wasnt untill mid 2006 that Orbit; Dear Beacon decided to get their heads down and try to capture the music they had created. The album was never finished and was all but forgotten about untill spring of 2007. Peter Cooper and Sam Westley went about finishing and finally releasing the album; "Flee! To the Mammoth Canopy".

"Make no mistake, this is epic music: not harsh but comforting of the drama and tragedy of life. This could be the sanitised soundtrack to the reality of the human existence. Powerful, darkly melodic guitars swell while deceptively peaceful riffs seem lost then let loose with huge, brief crescendos.
With lumbering guitar tones, and drums that pulsate like those ripples in Jurassic Park, Orbit; Dear Beacon are certainly not on the softer side of the post-rock spectrum. "Flee! to the mammoth canopy", is Wooden Idea Production's first offering and years in the making, beautifully capturing their unique spin on the genre of post-rock. The subtle dynamic shifts and intriguing sonic juxtapositions make it Highly original and unforgettable." - Terrance, reviewz.alt.pl
